Wind

HAWT – Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines. These are most effective in rural areas where you can put a tower above the tree line (60 -100 feet tall). They spin at a high rate of speed and can effective generate up to 20 KW of power depending on your location (wind velocity and wind consistency).

VAWT – Vertical Axis Wind Turbines. These are designed to work in more urban and suburban areas. The have a lower rotational speed and can effectively generate up to 5KW of power depending on your location. They are typically located 20 – 50 feet off the ground and can be mounted on light poles, roof tops, or other existing structures (pending certification from an structural engineer).
