You know how Monday’s always seem to feel like the universe is spying on you from some hidden corner of the cosmos, rubbing it’s metaphorical hands together, snickering about all the fun ways it can come up with ruining your day? Yea it was that kinda day for us.

One of our first stops seemed so simple on paper. Go to a vacation rental and replace a fan. We arrive at the house and I promptly get to work dismantling the old fan and prepping it to come down while Jeremy starts prepping the new fan to go up. I casually mention to Jeremy that this ceiling seems awfully steep* and that just last week while installing similar fans I noticed a warning label that said “Do not install at an angle greater then 20 degrees”. He and I swap spots and he starts to take the existing fan down as I start meticulously pouring over the directions making sure there’s nothing about how steep or shallow a ceiling needs to be.

Lucky us! Nothing in the paperwork about mounting on steep ceilings….well take a look at the picture to see how that worked out.

Ahhhh, another fantastic Monday.

*if you’re not aware, a “standard” house in the Poconos usually features a great room with a vaulted ceiling and a loft area that overlooks.

I’m relatively new to the trade, so keep in mind that I haven’t seen nearly as much half-assed, poor and overall just not up to code work as some other more experienced people have.

Lucky for us, today’s house had a basement, which is a nice surprise compared to your average Pocono crawl space. Even if it’s not tall enough to stand up in, has a two inch layer of dust everywhere and what I’m sure was a serial killers victim’s last words scraped into the wall(really just a innocent game of tic-tack-toe…scraped into the basement wall?!?) I ALWAYS prefer a basement to a crawl space.

So I ventured into the basement to find a junction box Jeremy said most likely existed. I found it, mounted above five water pipes in such a way you had to nearly become intimate with the pipes to access the box. After getting closer to some hot water pipes then I’d like, I was able to un-splice all the wires in the box, which is when I snapped this picture.

Now like I said, I’m kinda new to this, but I don’t remember a note in the box fill section of the code that said “The shorter you cut your wires, the less they count towards you’re overall box fill”. If someone would be kind enough to point that code out to me I’d appreciate it very much.

-Jesse

WB Electric, Incorporated is an Electrical Contracting company located in the beautiful town of Jim Thorpe in Eastern Pennsylvania. Serving Carbon County, Monroe County, Lehigh Valley and the surrounding areas. We provide the Commercial, Residential, Institutional and Industrial industries with: electrical, lighting design and installation, generator systems, industrial motor control and automation, lighting control, stage lighting, IT services, voice/data/video networks, and maintenance. We are also, a leader in designing, implementing, and servicing renewable energy products including Solar Electric, Solar Thermal, Wind systems, and Electric Vehicle charging solutions. Come see our installed solar thermal heating system at the Kettle Hill Professional building – we practice what we preach!

WB Electric was founded by Walter Bevilacqua, a licensed electrical contractor with more than 25 years of experience in the industry. Walt grew up around construction sites as his father and uncle were masons and his grandfather was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He has always loved seeing a set of drawings evolve from a project to a structure and finally to a family home or business.

Instead of moving directly into construction as a tradesman, Walter went to Tech School and then on to Penn State, majoring in industrial automation. He graduated in the late ’80s and worked for a few years constructing cell phone towers as the nation’s cellular networks expanded across the country. Through the ’90s he worked for two engineering firms offering his expertise both nationally and internationally.

In 2000, Walter started a family and made it back to construction. Today, he is one of the most successful electrical contractors in Northeastern PA, with a client list including Penn’s Peak, The Times News, Tractor Supply Company, Braden Airpark (Lehigh Valley International Airport), Martin Guitars, and some of the largest homebuilders operating in the Poconos. His company offers residential and commercial electrical contracting, sustainable energy consulting, sales and installation for both solar energy systems and wind power.

Today, the company has a retail sales and engineering office on Highway 903 in Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania and serves Carbon County, Monroe County, the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. The company’s solar photovoltaic installation business is currently growing throughout the northeast. The firm provides electrical lighting design and installation, generator systems, industrial motor control and automation, lighting control, stage lighting, voice/data/video networks and maintenance for the Commercial, Institutional, Residential and Industrial construction sectors. The company also provides a full line of solar panels and systems for residential and commercial properties as well as wind turbine sales and installation.

Welcome to the new WB Electric portal and to the new age of iService. Whew, this has been a fun ride so far developing this with such a great crew. We created this web site to be easy, informative, dynamic and environmentally friendly. Oh, and a little fun.(ie. the blogs)

Easy. See that iService button? Click and enter basic information and we will take care of your request and schedule your estimate or work to fit your schedule. A very cool interactive calendar is in the works and coming soon; stay tuned!

Informative. We created tools within each category to help you get answers and educate yourself.

Dynamic. This site is going to be growing and developing with the changing times. We are tied in with all the major online social networking groups and our team is constantly looking for the most up to date technology available to save you energy, money and time.

Environmentally friendly. We strive to use the best solar, wind, electric vehicle charging stations, energy efficient electrical and lighting equipment available in the industry. We are also moving to a paperless invoicing and work order system. Our office building has the most energy efficient lighting in the area, not to mention our solar thermal water heating and floor heating system.

I personally have a great love of the outdoors and the environment. My family, friends, coworkers and customers can see the values that I try to reflect in my actions. Recycling, educating everyone on light pollution, (a major peeve of mine) and just being efficient and not ignorant with the use of our electricity (do you really need that light on in the other room or outside right now?) My personal hope is that together we can help keep an iceberg from dropping off the polar ice cap, keep a group of trees from falling to their premature deaths in any forest or slowing down the hole growing in the atmosphere above our heads. I hope that this attitude can become as viral as someone making a spectacle out of themselves on Youtube!

Thank you for taking your valuable time visiting our new website. Enjoy!

Walt Bevilacqua
